The other day I learned that "blog" is short for "web log." Did you know that? Don't lie, you didn't. So I guess this is my first "web log" I've ever had and I'm not sure what to think of it. I think I am doing this more for me than for anyone who is going to be reading this, which is probably just my mom and dad. Hi Mom & Dad!
This is going to be a place for me to process what I experience in South Africa and record my memories so I never forget them. Oh and since bizarre, often hilarious things always seem to happen to me, I will be sure to post them on here so you all can have a good laugh at my expense. Or at someone else's expense. I guess it depends on the day.
Oh I guess I should explain WHAT exactly I will be doing. So, if you didn't already know because you don't care about me or I don't know you and you're stalking my blog, I am studying abroad in South Africa through Azusa Pacific University, aka my school. I will be in 16 units of classes including Intercultural Communication, History/Culture of South Africa, Intro to Zulu (language), another class I can't think of right now.... Humans and the Environment (biology), and Life & Teachings of Jesus. Our campus is in Pietermaritzburg, which is in the east (see map!) At the end of the semester, we will travel over to Cape Town and get to experience a homestay which I am already pumped for.
Along with our studies, we get the opportunity to serve in the local communities in various ways, which is the whole reason why I chose to go to South Africa. Originally, Spain was what I had my eye on. I mean, let's be real. It's SPAIN. Sure to be epic. But luckily God steered me in the direction of South Africa, where I will have the opportunity to receive AND give. I am praying that God will use me in every way possible in Africa and I can't wait!!
I leave Saturday for APU, then my flight is on the 7th as I head to my destination. Oh, but as if the last week before you leave for 3 months isn't jam-packed enough, I have a doctor's appointment on Wednesday where they will (hopefully) tell me that I can walk again! (Again, if you're a stalker and I don't know you, then you will not know that I have had a broken ankle for 5 weeks.) Then on Friday..... drumroll please.......... the big 21! And I'm planning on partying hardy with a family birthday party!! Haha no no don't worry, I'm really excited.
I love you all!
Britt
ps. Please leave comment thingys on my posts from time to time so that I know someone actually reads this junk and so I can hear from you because I will be sure to be missing YOU.
